Are they having a Turkish? Who does their costings, the abacus? People are living longer and care will be a huge future cost as it is, £6bn, much much more than that to offer free care to the over 65s. I forgot how much fun Labour conference week is!

The original classic concept, laudable as it was, is unworkable and the collapse is already under way - the free service is becoming worse and worse because the aim is unaffordable. The old/present NHS is doomed simply by the weight of practicalities. The inevitable is simply being put off at the expense of patients' lives.
