I assume you haven't injured that knee in any way? Even an old injury can cause problems sometimes.
A friend of mine had a painful knee that came on very suddenly. Sometimes she couldn't put her weight on it at all and it would even give way under her sometimes when she was walking. She started taking glucosamine sulphate, which she'd heard was good for painful joints, and it cured it completely.
Obviously, though, if over-the counter treatments like that don't help you should get it looked at.

Could be a cartilage problem, but whatever it is, your not going to find out until, as Deenie says, you get it looked at,
I Tore my cartilage last November, but haven't a clue how it was done, don't recall a knock at all, but went to the gp, who got me seen at hospital, and thats what it was. Book an appointment, and good luck.
