I have just bought these earphones from Currys on a trial basis. Has anyone ever used them and if so, is it possible to just use the noise cancelling function as I want to use them for sleeping only.

you be much better tyring cheap earplugs if which there are hundreds before buying N/C headphones which most likley make your ears sweat and you can't turn over in bed with them and they will use battery life

Thanks derek-33. Decided in the end to ditch the noise cancelling earphones and have opted instead for earmuffs which seem to be working.
