I paid 180 3 years ago for a complete operating system for a pc i bought off of e-bay which has just expired. Can i use this software package on any new pc that does not have a operating system or can it only be used once.It is a authentic xp box with codes etc but i am wary that it can only be used once.Anyone help please?
As you have the installation disc with and code to enter on the beginning of the instructions you should be able to. If you have any difficulties make sure you get satisfaction by phoning Microsoft. They are very helpful, just explain the situation.
Can't help you with their number as I don't live in the UK.
Good luck.
You can use it as often as you like (provided it's installed on only one machine at any one time). You will need to activate it on the net. The only problem I foresee is that if it's 3 years old or more, it won't include Service Packs 1 or 2 which means you are in for a MASSIVE download to bring it up to date.
As most new PCs include XP at the OEM price, you are probably better off just getting a new copy with your new PC
or, when you sepak to Microsoft, you can ask for a SP1 / SP2 update CD. You can also usually get one of these from your local computer shop for a nominal charge.
The install disc came with service pack one.If i remember right when i originally put it on the only thing it asked me was if i wanted the system to be something called NTFS or FAT32?????????????.Anyone any idea what this means?
It's two different ways of organising your hard disk. Very little visible differences between them, but NTFS is the later, more 'powerful' system and I'd go with that if I were you.
