What Is Offensive About This?:
59 Answers
" You f****** black c***". I'm just asking, as I wondered which of those three words is offensive. I saw it reported in a newspaper t'other day, as shown, and wondered why they had only censored two of the words.

No.. No i don't think he is.
Maybe we could hold the troll card for when people are actually trolling? It's over used and those who use it, often show a lack of understanding for what the word means.
I'd be interested how you'd react to an actual troll.. Probally not very well.

I dont like joining in with the usual muckers ( er dialect oop t norf by the way)
words are taboo - some are and some arent - as we well know from zillions of threads on naughty words on AB
black is used by minorities ( inc Br Afro caribbean - which I always find a mouthful) - as in
I saw a black lad with a knife
- - - - -- - - - -( actually - - - sorra black lad wivva shiv innit ) but what the hell
and people say - so what, what is abnormal about that ? ter daah!
I mean: they DON'T say - "you cant say black, or naomi will object !"
They WOULD object to hear the other words.
[hey did you read - americans ( sozza 'muricans ) are complaining that Pres Trump's languagae is not suitable for under tens?]
I try not to shock it is hard enough getting people to understand what I am saying.....

I'm a movie geek Spath, I've dealt with many a troll. My usual reaction is to verbally insult them then ignore the thread.
Perhaps troll was the wrong word to describe this thread, but I felt it was aimedat causing a row. The whole idea of comparing the word "black" to the edited words is ridiculous. The average person of colour (I think that's the correct right on terminology) refer to themselves as black. There are many worse names they could've been called, but the whole idea of swearing at someone, while referencing their race is wholly racist and unwanted. The paper edited the phrase correctly.

How times change. Have any of you ever worked with black people? I don't just mean one or two black people. I mean a workplace where over half of the employees were black in a company that employed over 3000 people. Ever been to their weddings and social gatherings? I have. Caribbean/African/Asian. All of life was there! I play golf regularly with some Caribbean and Asian friends who think it's ok to say some outrageous things to each other, but if I said the same things to them I would be probably be reported for racial abuse. I had to laugh at the reference to me being a troll, whatever one of them is. For a start I don't do social media of an description; Bookface; Timeface; Chatsnap etc. If you knew my full name and Googled it, you would probably only find things related to golf and HMS Glorious. And I only use this site for short periods. The reason for posting the OP was that having experienced/still experiencing, all of the above, I think lots of things today are greatly exaggerated by over-emotional, self-promoted martyrs.

I haven’t read all the posts but I question why the word ‘black’ should ever be deemed offensive. Personally, I think that attitude is an insult to black people – even though black people are often guilty of exacerbating the notion. Very wonky thinking in my opinion. There should be no shame in being black.
