I normally get depressed from November to about the beginning of April, but in the last few days I've had that feeling of impending doom (winter/long nights etc) and in August it's way too early. I don't really know how to deal with it, I'm hoping it's just a blip. Maybe the weather, wind and rain, is tricking my head into thinking it's winter. Am I alone?

Sounds like you are suffering from SAD (seasonal affective disorder I believe). Or am I stating the obvious and you already know all about that!
If you don't I believe you can get light boxes which are supposed to help. But as you say sounds a bit early to get it this year.
Depressed because of weather and dark winter nights, well if thats the case i should of been depressed for the last 3 months as i hate the summer {especially being a hayfever sufferer} i love the cold dark winter nights, i can't believe for one moment that you are serious in your question, please tell me your not.
No you are not alone. We had horrendous weather here yesterday ,torrential rain, gales of wind, thunder ..it was horrible, dark and dreary .I too dread the winter and the cold and dark and..being arthritic the damp.I am a miserable B.if the sun doesn't shine. My Mum always used to say I was a miserable January baby !!
You just have to get through it I suppose ..but the summer is my favourite time of the year.I don't get depressed about the winter but I don't like it !

So is Hayfever ..have a bit of give and take for other peoples feelings.
i heard somwhere you can get a machine that gives really bright rays of light and if you sit in a room with this machine for a couple of hours each day it tricks your brain into thinking youve had extra daylight which will make you feel less depressed,
Laurence2, if you are depressed you may have SAD. In case you did not know it is a seasonal affective disorder which only affects people in the winter time and it is treatable by...................OKAY OKAY, I am just heading for the door now!!!!!

Laurence you're an insensitive arse. I do suffer from REAL depression and you are clearly someone who doesn't, well lucky you! Some people have real problems and if it helps them to talk anonomously in Body & Soul then that can only be good. I don't think you should respond to things you know nothing about. So please keep your opinions to yourself.
miffey63, tut tut.

What exactly mrs know all is REAL depression, if you suffer from REAL depression, then you haven't got SAD you,ve got depression 24/7, 365 days a year, or don't you get REAL depression between april & november

Try enjoying yourself instead of looking for pity
And by the way SAD is for 4 months november/february, so you must be a special test case if yours is through to april as this is spring time, you know when the daylight is here the daffodils are growing and the birds are singing

God help being your doctor
it would be great if everyone who is feeling down or depressed that they could just snap out of it alas we are only human take care
