Please can you advise me, I think my 2yr old girl has thrush down below, she is scratching like mad and complaining of it being sore, when I looked, there was a bit of a smell, and a heavy thick white discharge.

How on earth can a 2yr old get thrush? Im so worried. We are extremely clean and hygienic, but I'm worried that she caught it from me as I have it at the minute? But for the life of me cant think how, I haven't shared a bath with her? and cant think of anything else. I know kids can get it in other areas at her age and younger, but down there?

I have a doctors appointment on Monday but cant wait until then. Please help

cant you change your appointment?if not phone and speak with a dotor to explain, they ought to fit you in as an emergency i would think cos it wont improve until medication is started.
a quick call to your health visitor may help
Hi TopCat,

My 3 year old nephew had thrush on his willy last month. The doctor said it was probably the heat that had caused it. He gave my sister some cream to put on it and within a few days it had cleared up. Don't panic too much but obviously if you can get an appointment somewhere do, as I am sure it is very uncomfortable for your little girl. Hope it clears up soon x
if you cant change the appointment, what about asking the pharmacist? Do you use the same towels?
Try NHS DIrect 0845 4647
my daughter had it once when she was still in nappies, took her to the doctors and he prescribed canesten cream to put on which cleared it up in a couple of days. Try talking to your pharmacist who will advise you
It may help to cut down on her sugar consumption (that is if she does have antying sugary so young) and give her a good probiotic. ABCdophilus by solgar is an excellent one for children.
You can get thrush at any age, as it is an imbalance of natural yeast... It has nothing to do with lack of cleanliness or other contamination necessarily. Exactly - the heat will exacerbate the liklihood of causing it.
And the next thing I am going to say I really don't want to freak you out - but sometimes things like this can alert ppl to the fact that abuse has taken place....... I really don't want to freak you out, and I'm sure that's not the case but I'm just raising it because you did ask the question and it's true. But I want to emphasise that is not an exclusive cause. Feel bad for even suggesting this but feel obliged. All the best.
Have 6 kids, (2 to 12), they have all had it at one time or another. Dr prescribed Caneston which wasn't very effective. Pharmacist unofficially recomended Daktaren and feeding natural yoghurt - I found this to be best for my kids. Good Luck.
