It's disgraceful the way our ex-service men and women (Not so many) are treated, our gov' can't get their finger out of their own arris to help anyone. I feel saddened going through city centers and having no change on me, its hard to assess ex service folk but non-the-less homelessness is a problem in the UK whatever misfortune has befallen them.

I can't comment on the practices with local branches of the RBL now but when I helped my Dad at our local branch in the 1970s and 1980s homeless servicemen were a feature then too.
We had 2 houses of bedsits and it certainly wasn't an easy task for anyone involved - many were so happy to have a roof, room and warmth, others had so much pent up anger there was violence, drugs and even aa serious fire.
For a long time there has been poor heed paid to the way in which some service personnel return to civvy street.

I think that there should be a distinct differentiation between ex-service personnel and ex-service personnel who served in an action overseas and perhaps have been physically and/or mentally harmed by such service to the country. The latter group deserve much more respect and assistance than the first group who are really no different than ex-plumbers, teachers, salesperson, etc; however, living on the streets, for whatever reason or reasons, seems to be on the rise unfortunately.
The accommodation 'pods' at which students are turning their noses up would be Godsends to the homeless.
They are cheap. Why can't L.As. invest in just a few?
Locally, Bridlington beach is often used for sleeping on - and a large proportion of the homeless are ex-military. Many people leave the cities like Bradford and Leeds and come here. Maybe they have childhood memories of happier times or maybe they feel safer in a gentler environment.
We have a local (secular)organisation dedicated to help and now there is a church-sponsored house - no preaching- (with Warden) providing rooms and a start - like having an address so you can apply for aid and jobs.
We help as much as possible,
Please, make any local organisation helping the homeless a priority for your charity this Christmas.... and all through the year!
