Agree, TTT.... having driverless cars is complete madness, and the idea of them on today's roads makes me angry at the stupidity of it.

Yes but the point is that the specific flaws have now been identified. The biggest one being employing designers who can't correctly define nor understand the scope of the task given them. Pedestrians do cross roads. People don't always do things sensibly. In fact it's getting worse as authorities create an, 'I don't need to care, if I'm injured or killed it'll be the other person's fault', attitude by limiting normal activity for all, citing safety as an excuse. Many just stroll out slowly, casually, instead of looking and hurrying to get across the danger zone.
