Refresh Chromebook ??
Hi all
My Acer Chromebook is getting a bit slow and it , just recently, doesn't always want to connect to the internet - I often have to turn off the wi-fi and then turn it on again to "get it going". I have been told that if I were to reset the chromebook to factory settings it would improve matters. I am quite prepared to do this but have one question - I use Chrome as my browser on my desktop and have a long list of bookmarks. If I did the "reset" I assume that all my bookmarks will go on the chromebook - will they also disappear from my desktop ?? Sorry for the long winded question !!

Here's how to back-up and restore your bookmarks:
Step 1:
Open Chrome.
Click the three dots at the top right.
Select Bookmarks > Bookmarks Manager.
At the top left, click More (three dots) > Export Bookmarks.
Export the file to any convenient location on your Chromebook.
Step 2:
Now copy the file you've just created to any location of yout choice which ISN'T on your Chromebook. For example, send an email to yourself with the file as an attachment, so that the file will be on your email provider's server.
Step 3 (to be used AFTER restoring your Chromebook to its factory settings):
Retrieve the file from wherever you stored it. (i.e. if you emailed it to yourself, go to your Inbox and download the attachment to any convenient location on your Chromebook)
Step 4:
Open Chrome.
Click the three dots at the top right.
Select Bookmarks > Bookmark Manager.
At the top left, click Organise.
From the drop-down menu, select Import Bookmarks from HTML file.
Navigate to the location of the file that you've stored your bookmarks in and import it.
You'll then have all of your old bookmarks back again.

I was assuming that you're using Chrome as a standalone browser on your Chromebook, independent of anything that you've got on your desktop. If you've synced the bookmarks between the two (so that a new bookmark on one device automatically appears on the other) then you shouldn't need to do anything anyway. Your bookmark's will be stored on Google's server and available on any device where you're signed in with the relevant Gmail address.
However if you want to create a bookmarks back-up on your desktop (which you can later use to import those bookmarks into Chrome on your Chromebook) that's fine too.
