im getting sick of carrying my laptop around and im thinking of having 2 and leaving one in each place - but i want them to be in sync with almost everything.

what are the various options so i can do this - i have same browser on both, but it doesnt seem to save my tabs - only settings and bookmarks, - is there a way to access tabs open on the other machine.

also i'd like to have the desktops identical, as well as be able to access all my files etc on either.

i want it to be as though i have just one laptop.

what are the best ways to do this?

i'm on windows 10 and a Dell machine

thanks

Your browser bookmarks and settings are synced because they're stored on the server of Google, Firefox or whoever and they're then loaded from that server whenever you use the relevant browser (and, of course, when you're logged into the account associated with your browser). Such servers don't hold information about open tabs, etc, so you can't use the syncing feature to share tabs across two machines.

What you need to do is to think of one of your machines as the 'master', which you'll actually do everything on (even if you're on the other side of the world from where that machine is located) and the other purely as a 'slave', that lets you control what's happening on the master machine. For that you need to use the 'Remote Desktop' feature available within Windows. (That will work even if you've not got the browser installed at all on the 'slave' machine, as you'll only be using the software on the 'master').

Sorry to disagree, but I have my Firefox tabs synced on 2 PC's

I'm happy to be corrected (although I'm not sure whether the facility is available across all browsers) but using Remote Desktop might still have its attractions (as, for example, documents, images and videos on the 'master' machine will also be available on the 'slave').

My machines are used for different purpose and I deliberately want to keep the bookmarks separate. (There are over 100,000 bookmarks on my laptop but just a few hundred on my desktop). The idea of syncing them together is anathema to me!
