Maple Tree

My son planted an Acer palmatum "Bloodgood" in June this year. The end of the leaves have seemed to die off. Its only small but should it have been in a pot or has the sun scorched it. It is in half sun/shade. I don't know whether to move it. Could someone please advise.Ta

It dont have to be grown in a pot,althuogh many people do grow them this way, soil should be nutral or acid.
Semi-shade is recomended but the hot dry heat we've experienced of late is probably to blame. badely scorched leaves will not recover but by spraying the plant (not in strong sunlight) occaisionally or applyinga foliar feed during the growing season, it may stop other leaves becoming affected.
A mulch of leaf mould and a regular supply of water around the roots should also help. Good Luck Tbird+

As long as you have planted it in ericacious compost and kept it well watered it should be ok. Sometimes the leaves of delicate acers tend to go brown and crispy at the ends depends on the weather. A lot of plants have been under stress this summer because of the exceptional heat. It wont be long before it drops its leaves for the winter months. It should bud up again around March when you should watch out for morning frosts just as the buds are bursting. If you decide to put it in a pot wait until it has dropped its leaves then transfer using above compost. Hope this helps. Skylight
