We not only attended, but were very involved with our local Remembrance Service. I read a poem by Cyril Crain who was 21 when he landed on Juno Beach. It is called 'Normandy' and worth looking-up.
The singing-group we're in also sang, Mr. J2 (as the oldest surviving ex-serviceman in the village) carried and placed the flag and helped to lay the wreath at our memorial. Yesterday I and 2 other ladies worked v. hard making floral arrangements for the church (artificial poppies, corn, teazles and straw for anyone interested). We played a recording of the BBC announcement that D-Day had commenced. It all went extremely well and people seemed very satisfied.
