Poem about logs

I had a poem about logs in which part of it was Ash Green or Ash ?old??, It will burn fit for a king or something???, but the main reason is because it was really useful about which wood to burn on the fire IE for smell, warmth, none spitting qualities and I lost it ....anyone out there have any idea ????

Perhaps this is what you mean?

Oak-logs will warm you well
That are old and dry
Logs of pine will sweetly smell
But the sparks will fly
Birch-logs will burn too fast
Chestnut scarce at all
Hawthorn-logs are good to last
Cut them in the fall.
Holly-logs will burn like wax
You may burn them green
Elm-logs are like smouldering flax
With no flame to be seen
Beech-logs for winter time
Yew-logs as well
Green elder-logs it is a crime
For any man to sell.
Pear-logs and apple-logs
They will scent your room
Cherry-logs across the dogs
Will smell like flower of broom
But ash-logs, smooth and grey
Burn them green or old
Buy up all that come your way
They're worth their weight in gold.

How strange because it is, but it isn't , its really similar but different, the one I had definately had fit for a king in it. But heh its the content I was after .which logs are best since I seem to have a lot to choose from at the moment and I'm certainly not breaking my back to split green elder!!! neither of them tell you that Lime smells like dog poo when its burnt possibly doesn't ring well in a poem. thanks heathfield....nice earthy name you got there.... are you wind swept by any chance??

Maybe this one?

Beechwood fires are bright and clear
If the logs are kept a year,
Oaken logs burn steadily
If the wood is old and dry;
Birch and fir logs burn too fast
Blaze up bright and do not last;
Chestnut's only good, they say
If for long it's laid away;
But ash new or ash old
Is fit for a Queen with a crown of gold;
It is by the Irish said
Hawthorn bakes the sweetest bread;
Poplar gives a bitter smoke
Fills your room and makes you choke;
Applewood will scent your room
With an incese like perfume;
But ash wet or even ash dry
For a King to warm his slippers by...

I didn't realise there would be more than poem about burning logs!

yeah thats it, Now I have 2 logish poems. Thankyou lovely people its been bugging me for years......I only found this website a few days ago what a fab thing it is.
