agree with you Twix, the referendum was held to the collective, the majority voted to leave.
I find it insulting that the SNP (or any other party who may have been in power) say they want to stay in the EU.
First they must win independence (good luck with that) then, and only then should they apply to join the EU (again, good luck with that - they should have a referendum on that before they blindly go off half-loaded as usual

They didn't 'crash' us into Europe. For years Europe said 'Non'. Additionally at that time 'Europe' was not the EU - and nothing like it.

The Labour Party were against joining the EEC which is why Heath, without any Parliamentary debate or vote, took us in anyway, just on his authority.
Belatedly, the Labour Party offered the electorate a referendum, when we were already in.

Parliament passed the EEC Act in 1972 by 8 votes.

Heath agreed to our membership in 1970. In 1971 Parliament ratified that stance. In July 1973 we joined, but it was agreeded only retrospectively rubberstamped after wewere in.

Wilson’s manifesto had promised a referendum on our membership which took place in 1975.
The question was should we stay in. The nation voted 17,378,581 yes to stay, and 8,470,073 not to stay.
