// Though how you can compare it to Peaky Blinders, PP, is baffling me a tad?//
rather easily actually - Vienny Blood is around 1895-1900 ( end of empire) and peaky blinders was set historically 1895-1908 (but the drama is set post war 1918)
and in both - the men wear their hats inside - which I find really weird as they didnt at the time
and stiff collars
and I was particularly impressed with the fin de siecle burlesque show scene (drag show) - I thought it must have been like that in the Weimar republic ( 1920s Germany). [clearly that would be Vienny blood]
Pukey Blinders - lots of scenes were just wrong -
In the scene where the master of the house is NOT butchered in the kitchens,
the chef is deboning a carcass - he wouldn't - he is an arteest- one of the kitchen hands would do heavy work like that. Our hero survives and bungs ten bob to one of the servants. None of the other servants say - "ere why he done dat den?" - and the lucky fellow takes it with bloodied hands.
oh and didnt you find all the telephone boxes in the middle of lettuce fields - - a bit limp? - and fields ploughed in straight lines though they were using horses
n polly shooting the girl with the accuracy of an SAS sniper although she only had a hand gun?
In Vienny Blood, the then current idea that psychoanalysis is a Jewish treatment for a Jewish disease is very well implied as an undercurrent. and the idea that various trades and professions were verboten to Jews ( medicine OK from 1840 ) but clearly the police dept didnt have any and didnt want any either.
nd the austro hungarian empire is a German empire but made up of many nations. The inspectors underling - straussman is a czech isnt he?
