Street Homeless & Rubbish

About 4pm I walked down my local high street and noticed the various usual homeless in doorways with their dogs. One particular woman, about 60, sat huddled in coats/blankets and 2 obligatory staffies sitting obediently beside her. About half an hour later I walked back past her spot and she'd gone - however she'd left a carrier bag full of rubbish and 2 empty Costa cups (undoubtedly donated) just lying on the ground. I doubt she was more than 20 yards from a bin. There are many ABers who wave the flag for these people and try to make some of us feel guilty or heartless. I'd like to know how you'd defend this woman leaving her mess for someone else to clear up? It makes me really angry.

True, but I've not (yet) heard of any problems in the shelters here that do allow dogs.
I am not a great dog lover but I appreciate that for some it is their only companion as well as a useful begging aid. Sadly, as with any institution there have to be rules and regulations for the common good. Such places are not a panacea, but they are a start.
Re the dogs, I agree jd they offer companionship. Plus security, and they radiate warmth at night .
Maybe some hostels should allow dogs and some shouldn't. For a lot of people, their dog might well have been their only companion and support for a long time.
I can't see that immediately separating them, is a great start to supporting someone, or will be any incentive for people to use hostels.
