I'd be cheesed off they're pushing their agenda onto young minds. For that reason alone, no I'd not be happy. Indoctrination of Vegan/Vegetarian ideas are not what a nursery is paid to do. Different matter if the parents request weird diets for their kid.

would you say that if every nursery, school had only Halal meals, where one small section of society dictates to the rest.
emmie, you asked what the alternative was to milk and I simply told you how my daughter raised her son without dairy and the alternatives available.

diddlydo, a bad parent is a bad parent. Most parents who choose to raise their children as vegetarian or vegan get all the information they need to raise healthy children. The NHS isn't against it in the UK. This UK child went blind because of a poor diet.

I am unsure why meat eaters are opposed to halal meat.
There's a big difference between 40% vegetarian (current) and 100% vegan (intended).
Question Author
because of the way it's portrayed and besides why should i eat halal, if i don't want to. Restaurants, cafes, should differentiate between the two. anyway i only mention it because a small amount of people hold sway over many.
It wouldn't surprise me if all the lamb and chicken served in schools and nurseries is halal. All NZ lamb is halal and it's cheaper than UK lamb. Most chicken is also halal. It doesn't have to be labelled as such.
Question Author
it should be though ^
Question Author
anyway that is another topic perhaps for another time.......

I agree that it should be labelled as 'halal slaughtered' rather than 'halal'. Not all meat that has been halal slaughtered can be sold as halal and isn't halal - it is much more involved that the slaughter process.
There is a HUGE difference between Vegan and Vegetarian !!! The school in the link is 'Vegan' . NOT ! Vegetarian !! I am fine with Vegetarian but NOT with Vegan. Vegan is more a religion than a food choice !
Eddie, I can assure you that my daughter regards it more of a science than a religion. She doesn't try to recruit people and happily cooks meat for us when we stay with her.
Eddie, according to the report the nursery is 40% vegetarian at the moment, it will be vegan in January.
Question Author
indeed ^^
Veganism is nuts.
The lack of consultation would the my main complaint as a Parent, the actual sample menus look lovely.
Hard for me to answer because I never had kids, but I doubt I'd be bothered if the food was interesting and nutritious and they could eat what they liked at home.
Actually, the more Ive thought about this, the more of a positive step I view it.
Not only is it getting away from meat based meals, which we’re all being encouraged to do, it’s giving those children a taste of a wider range of foods which can be nothing but good.
If I was a parent of a child at that nursery I’d congratulate the place for their forward thinking and be glad my child had a place there.
I eat meat.
^^^ what Vagus said.

I'm a vegetarian who enjoys nothing better than a plant based meal; pleased to see it becoming more the norm and people who wish to eat meat do so by adding it to their diet, rather than us having to have it removed.
I saw some sample menus reported in this case. They appear mostly to consist of curries and spicy foods which do not appeal to most small children. I remember being told by my midwife, many years ago when my children were weaning, to avoid such flavours until after the age of 3 years.
I actually work in childcare so I know that many children are in nursery from early morning until their bedtime so they don't necessarily get fed anything at home outside of Monday to Friday.
If parents are concerned they may choose to give vitamin drops.
If parents are very concerned they can place their child in a different nursery.
My 9 month old niece eats just about everything the family does, including spicy food...not too spicy obviously. I believe thinking has changed in recent years.
