There's only one sure way of dealing with plastic carrier bags, and that's to ban supermarkets from selling them completely. I know there's been a big reduction since charging for them, but is it the answer? no I don't think so. We would soon get used to taking our own cloth bags when going shopping, like years ago.

i agree the shops need to do more.
My bags were made from recycled plastic bottles, am I green enough?
Arksided - either always have a bag with you or carry impulse buys in your hands - they're attached to your body to hold things.
.. I'm going to take up juggling.. to help save the planet.

Joshing aside I'm fully aware that plastic is a major problem globally especially for marine life (Eco-warriors please don't preach all other implications) but do agree shops should do more and I'd be more than happy to carry my goods in a recycled tree.
Question Author
would anyone pay 70p for one of these Bags For Life
If I really needed one, yes.
If I had paid for a lot of things and couldn't fit it all in the bags I had brought, I would pay whatever, because there would be little choice at that point.
Yes, I would. I'd pay more actually.
I'd pay it as well.
Question Author
i guess i would too if it came to it.
I do, but I reuse them .
Hopefully I won't have to for a while as I have plenty which I use and re-use on a loop and when they get a bit 'iffy' I use them to put rubbish in the outside bin. I make them last as long as I possibly can.
I either reuse them or give them to our corner shop to use.
I use the plastic bags as bin bags so they are re-used. I don't have a large collection of them.. like I've noticed that many .... ooooh Women do.
Girls love their bags, plastic or otherwise :-)
If you walk to the shops or go by bus or taxi, I can understand why you would need to put your shopping into bags. If you go in a car and you forget to get your bags out of the boot or you don't take enough bags into the shop, why can't you just put your stuff back in the trolley and wheel it back to your car?
Lovely idea Barsel but some folk can' even put the trolleys away... in their allotted space. Far too difficult

Anna.. I know :-)
