On our local news , people are being asked to stay away from the A&E departments across the region and to ring 111, to free up Doctors time to care for the more serious cases, I suppose the elderly or the very young might have to be seen but surely 111 and a referral would be the way to go

Clarion - it's always happened regardless of language. People with a very low pain threshold or full of self importance.

I was in A&E at NMGH one Friday night about 11.30 pm when an ambulance crew wheeled in a lad on a stretcher, followed by two police officers. He had a knife stuck in his head, was clearly sozzled and kept shouting to the staff to "just stitch me up and I'll be alright", blood pouring everywhere. I often wonder what became of him. That was a different kind of headache though! :o)
David Bowie?
Did he die with a knife in his head?
Or maybe it was Kris.
Ivor Fairbairn-Sykes maybe?
He's not getting the point, shoota.
I seem to have spent my life sowing my seed on stony ground...
Illegal gimmegrants, or whatever we're supposed to call them now, don't/can't sign up with GPs. A&E is their first port of call.
Disgusting. You forgot Swiss Toni.
Surely A&E can then phone the police?
If you mean the illegal immigrants, ummmm, how would they know?
That's why illegals use them.
There was some scheme where A&E were supposed to establish the status of their customers but, rightly or wrongly, Hospital staff didn't play ball.
Anyway, I don't think police can detain illegal immigrants.
I've always been asked the name of my current doctor, surgery address.
me too, ummm. They probably get round it by saying the patient is on holiday and just visiting.
Staff are also too busy to ask status of patient, I guess.
There was a programme on BBC sometime ago where patients were visited by hospital finance. They wanted to see proof of who they were, where they're from, how long they were staying and any insurance details..yada yada. They had two people to work the whole hospital!! The NHS do invoice these people and their country of birth if they have no NI number. Cheaper to let it go though.
In the back of an ambulance in a straightjacket is the only way I'd enter A&E.
Hate hospitals, they're full of sick people, rarely fun to hang out with.
My last stay, besides the pain and humiliation, was quite funny. Whatever drugs they were giving me, not sure, but I was off my nut.
That's why I prefer psyche hospitals, everyone is off their nut.
Enjoyed my three week visit some years ago.
If only I could refer myself ;-/
not the place to be going on wide experience, night time is the worse, as i have already said.
