Let's talk advertisement (should be in ads). They are saying that children are more anxious and depressed than years ago - surely then if one wants to talk - get off the MOBILE phones then conversation can start naturally. That rankles me.

I think social media has affected anxiety levels in kids.
If kids are anxious and depressed due to mobile usage then adults must be too.
I liked my brother's attitude when his home phone rang (before mobiles were thought of), the phone is there for his convenience, not that of the caller.

He bathed in peace and ate meals with his family (at different times) quite happily with the thing ringing away.
And if you think mobile usage is endemic in the UK, you should go to the Far East (especially Hong Kong) It's shocking how addicted to mobiles people of all ages are there.
JJ...we don't have a landline.

dave - mobiles are as intrusive as you allow them to be.
How do you have internet with no landline????
Landline phone.
Well, we have no mobile reception in our house - which is leading to ever more interesting complications. I can use my mobile if I walk along the road and up the hill a bit- but usually it is off unless I am out and about and all it is used for it to make and receive phone calls.

I watch people who are glued to their phones and I despair, I really do. The worst are the mums who I see sitting together - all typing away on their phones whilst their babies/toddlers watch them from their push-chairs. The children are not learning to TALK!
I think the politicians are the cause of a lot of it .Never giving a straight answer ,making it up as the go along ,blaming every body else .
I think that's sad too, same as when you see a mum pushing a buggy with her eyes glued to her phone. We used to chat to our toddler and point things out to them. How much are they missing out on?

JJ...we don't have a landline/// then in answer to diddly do - you tell him landline phone - surely you need a landline to have a landline phone.
We don't have a landline phone, we use mobiles.
You said you have no landline. I then asked you how you have the internet without a landline to which you replied "Landline phone". How am I supposed to make sense of that?!
I understood it perfectly. You (diddly) assumed ummmm meant a landline phone rather than the line itself.
Thank you, Zacs.
