When I solve a sudoku I just write in the correct numbers - even if I mistakenly enter a wrong number I have to tippex it out before I can continue.

Yet other people enter (small/pencil) possible numbers in multiple squares before arriving at the correct number. This completely throws me & I can't continue a solution that someone has started in this way. Am I odd or do others simply write in the correct numbers?

I write in the correct numbers - no tippex needed but similarly to you my wife has to put all the various options which to me is confusing. Each to their own
I quickly test to see which squares can only have have a unique number and for the rest pencil in the possible ones. Also helpful if eg 2 squares can only have 8 & 9 or 3 squares have a combination of 3 numbersthen that eliminates those from the other squares. Use a papermate replay to rub out easily
no I do that too
I've tried doing the pencilled in approach, it doesn't help me - I find it distracting.
