OH has been accepted for a Cochlea Ear Implant. Wonderful news. It will take a while though. Should take place in march or April. It will not be switched on for a month to give it time to heal. Then it can take about three months for him to get used to it. At first people's voices will sound like Mickey Mouse or Donald Duck. It takes time to relearn how to hear using different parts of the brain.
They told us of lots of things that could go wrong but stressed they are very rare.
We are both so excited about it. Daughter has just brought a bottle of bubbly round to celebrate!
Oh, how lovely for you both. Mr. J2's rapidly increasing deafness is such a strain - he has to be forced to go out with me and friends now - and when he does go I can see he's lost and feeling out of it. Really pleased for you.
That is wonderful news Caran.
My Mum is being fast tracked for one at the moment, she only has 50% in one eye and is blind in the other and wears two hearing aids which no longer do very much to help unfortunately.
She is very apprehensive at the moment, but they have told her that it will be a vast improvement to her hearing.
I hope it all goes well for him. X X
Yes congratulations. Hope all goes well. Agree with Vulcan.
My son in law has been deaf from birth, sadly not
suitable for the cochlea implant or snything else, and such a wonderful guy.
I have very personal reasons to be interested in this. All I will say is that it's a wonderful thing. I hope all goes well with it. It's very expensive but irreversible.
