funeral day
13 Answers
its my dads funeral today.
its very weird because i feel very serene today - moreso than any other day, but i expected to feel terrible.
i keep thinking how much he would have loved to be there as he adored family get-togethers, but i'm sure he will be there in some form.
i know this is not a question but some of you have given me advice recently about the funeral (i'm still not certain whether i will speak yet, but the minister is going to help if necessary).

However it is important to say goodbye. Something weird happened though- just as the speaker started to talk about my friend for the first time, and that (as a Mormon) he believed firmly in an afterlife, there was a huge gust of wind at an open window (just one!) and the net curtain flew about. I just thought it was a gust of wind, but then I saw a little boy of about 2 or 3 point to the window and shout with glee "Look! It's the man!". Nobody else seemed to notice any of this. Whether all of this was just a coincidence or nonsense, I did get the feeling that my friend was there with us.
I don't know what your beliefs are, but be open minded today and look out for signs that your Dad is with you in spirit today.
Good luck- go celebrate his life- and try not to be too sad.

keep your chin up,and your dad will be there dont worry about that and hell be having a good drink too.if you really want to speak just see how the day goes and how your feeling.today youll be crying and laughing, you will have your ups and downs for a long time.but just remember the good times youve shared.silverdaler it does get better to deal with i promise you that.i hope everything goes as smoothly as possible take care x
Silverdaler, your dad is always there as long as he is in your head/heart. I found this out after losing my dear stepdad. The serentiy you feel may well be a coping mechanism. You may well find out that if you are having a family get-together afterwards, you start telling silly stories about things your dad used to do, wondering why people aren't totally sombre, or even why they're able to laugh. I think it's the comfort of knowing you all remember him and that he's only left you in one way, not in another. Whatever you decide to do, it'll be what' feels appropriate at the time, and that's fine. Many condolences to you. X
dont worry about it not being a question, as long as you,ve had support , the no chat brigaders cant aruge with you to day, you will find yourself going throuhgh so many emotions, also greif has no time scale so dont compare how you feel to somone else just look after yourself and get plenty of support, it all so helps to help the others in your familly who are grefing it distrsacts you and helps you to focus a little so good luck on what will be a very strressful and emotinal day
Hi silverdaler,
I felt exactly the same at my mums funeral a couple of years ago, my Sister was really upset, but I was really calm and relieved in a way because mum had gone to a better place, she was in pain before she went and she just drifted away,so I was happy for her,if that makes sense, but your Dad will allways be with you,you will laugh, you will cry, but most of all you will remember him for being your lovely Dad,hope things go smoothly for you, take care, Ray

Thankyou all again for your support yesterday.
There was a huge turnout of friends and family - which was heart-warming. It was emotional as expected, but also lovely to hear lots of tributes to him from friends of his who we had never met.
i didnt manage to read the poem, but my brother just about managed it, which my dad would have loved.
Anyway, thankyou all once again.
