I think society in general is far more tolerant than it was a couple of generations ago, and amen to that.
When I grew up, a pregnant single woman was a scandal, now we have marital rights for gay couples, so society is moving towards tolerance at a rapid rate, and that has to be a good thing.
Caught up in the progress is the notion that older people cannot marry younger people.
Perception used to be - older man / younger woman - he is a pervert, she is a gold digger, older woman younger man - she is trying to have a good time while there is still time, he is a sex toy.
Happily, this nonsense is dying out, and good thing too.
A friend of mine married his wife when she was twenty-one and he was thirty-seven. Problem was, she looked about fifteen and he looked about fifty, so people were always assuming they were father and daughter. They laughed it off, and tried to help strangers over the embarrassment, but the couple didn't bother one bit what people thought.
