I wonder why Gilbert OSullivans Chritmas song is NEVER played, such a lovely song and it is not on any Christmas CD compilations discs either that I can see? TIA
Having now listened to it, I can think of two reasons why it wouldn't be played that often. First, whilst the sentiment is fair enough, it's hardly a happy lifting subject is it. Folk living in fear while you are trying to enjoy the season. Xmas is about lifting spirits in a cold dark season, not contemplating those fearful. And secondly, I doubt that the squawking kids encourage folk to bring it out and listen to it either.
I am glad it isn't played, I had forgotten how much I dislike it. I am always surprised that Stop the Cavalry is considered a Christmas song as its about being in the trenches in WW1
Stop The Cavalry mentions Christmas in the lyrics - I think that's why it is a christmas song. It was in the charts in December as well. The Take That song has become associated with Christmas as well because it has some bells in it (haven't heard that one yet this year)
