Hi Im confused.

Two questions in one:

FIRST QUESTION: P45 and new personal tax submission to HMRC
I was a partner in a limited company that was sold in Feb 2019. I got a P45 at the time of the sale(dated 28 Feb).
My personal tax return is ready to be submitted and the bookkeeper worked out what my tax liability is from my P45.
When this is received by HMRC what will I get in return? Another (newer) p45?

I really am so dumb when it comes to anything with numbers I get so confused.


QUESTION TWO:
Sole trader changing to be full time employed:
Since Feb 2019 I was not employed by any boss but I went and did cleaning work from 3 April (issued invoices in my own name and people payed directly into my bank account). I have not yet registered as a sole trader (I know I have 2 years from the start to do so according to HMRC site... I'm not planning on ducking any tax responsibility). But now I have been offered a potential job on a fully employed (PAYE) basis. If I take this job what do I give them? My P45 dated Feb 2019?

A P45 is simply a record of how much tax you've paid in the current tax year. It therefore ceases to have validity once then end of a tax year has passed. So your Feb 2019 P45 will be of no use to a new employer. They will require you to complete HMRC's 'starter checklist' instead: https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/paye-starter-checklist

Thank you and if I register as a the sole trader TODAY (I worked on this basis since April 2019) do I need to give any of that info to new employer? I will be employed on a PAYE basis.

ummmmm I've tried to call the HMRC number in the past and really just been on hold forever.
Go there in person.
^^^ To the best of my knowledge, HMRC have now largely completed their closure programme of all 281 walk-in tax enquiry offices, leaving just 13 regional centres (several of which have yet to open though) and their appalling telephone service. So Eve1974 might find it hard to locate a local enquiry centre.
