Instead it's the current atmospheric conditions, which are permitting interfering signals from continental Europe to reach East Anglia.
I was driving into Ipswich yesterday evening, while listening to Classic FM on the car radio. The station suddenly disappeared under interference from a Dutch-speaking station. It's the same problem that's been affecting terrestrial TV signals lately.
Such problems are fairly unusual in the winter months; they happen far more often during the summer. However they can occur at any time of the year.

Ours is OK up here in Norfolk, but I was driving in North Kent and Essex at the weekend and couldn't receive anything sensible on the radio at all. Lots of crackling and cross channel interference, and not until I reached North Suffolk did a couple of stations become clear. I guess its linked to the TV issue and am interested to read the report in the EADT link.
