I'm trying to think of really great songs that were one hit wonders. Things like Video Killed the Radio Star. Real classics that everyone loves. Any ideas?!
"Sukiyaki" wasn't actually the name of the song, (Ue o Muite Arukō ), the record company adopted something simple and recognisable because they thought English listeners would have difficulty with it.
Kyu Sakamoto sadly died in the crash of Japan Airlines 123 in 1985.
Mari Wilson - Telephone Man
Jilted John - Jilted John
The Tweets - The Birdie Song
Mr Blobby - Mr Blobby
St Winifreds Girls Choir - Grandma We Love You
just to wear my pedantic head for a second, "telephone man" was recorded by Meri Wilson.
Mari Wilson was almost a one-hit wonder with "just what I always wanted", only disqualified by her Julie London cover "cry me a river" which reached no.27.
A Little Peace - Nicole
Da Da Da - Trio
Save Your Love - Renee & Renato
Happy Talk - Captain Sensible
Breakfast At Tiffany's - Deep Blue Something
Werewolves Of London - Warren Zevon
I Love My Radio - Taffy
The list is endless depending on your criteria.
I'm now off to play Seven Tears by the Goombay Dance Band.
