Did anyone watch this documentary? For me it was absolutely riveting, such an unusual case and lots of it live from the Scottish Court.
"Filmed by Bafta Scotland award-winning director Matt Pinder, this ground-breaking doc takes the audience into the very centre of the trial at Glasgow’s High Court and beyond."
If you're short of something to watch I recommend you go to iPlayer and give it a go. Beautiful place, Inverkip.

Thank you so much for BA ladybirder.
Watched the second of the two episods, and, though I knew the outcome, I found it rivetting. The production of the receipt from the Regent Palace Hotel for when the couple stayed there, written at the same time as the letter purporting to come from Margaret - written on that hotel's notepaper! - was the absolute clincher for me.

It's a super link Maggie:-)

Brainiac you must watch the first one as well, it's worth it.
I liked the way Margaret's former teacher stood up to the questioning of the defence advocate - good for her!
Looks very interesting. Will watch it on i player sometime soon.
Talk about the wages of sin.
The male defendant aged 50yrs in less than 20. The woman didn't fare much better.

Wow Alba, you've just had me searching on Rightmove to see if it was sold but no luck. On the map it looks as if the house is still there but I don't know how old the map is. Good find by you. x
Do watch it Patsy, they don't come much better but pity you know the outcome now.
Spicerack don't understand your last post. She was 58 and he was 77 when they were tried.
They looked very very different in the 1999 photos.

Me too;-))
LB, I've not been able to find the figure for the majority verdict but unlike English law which allows a majority only as low as 10-2, a simple majority is acceptable under Scots law.

That means it could have been as low as an 8-7 majority.
I'm lucky, I've always looked ancient.
My understanding is that under Scots Law it needs at least eight jurors to convict a person by majority law. Any less than eight and the accused is acquitted. This means there can never be a hung jury.
Question Author
And is it a 12 person jury in Scotland Maggie?
15 for criminal trials (but 12 can be allowed if jurors fall ill for example)
12 for civil.
Question Author
So they could have been found guilty by 8-7 then, as TCL stated?
Regarding the ramshackle house - the link below gives a short update from 2017 but you can't read the whole article past the Pay Wall.
