//Thomas Markle has vowed to see his daughter Meghan in court after she took legal action against three newspapers - as he claimed she and Harry had "hurt" the Queen by their decision to step back from royal duties.

The Duchess of Sussex's father is the main witness for Associated Newspapers, owner of the Mail on Sunday and MailOnline, in its response to Meghan's legal action over an article featuring parts of a handwritten letter to her father.

"When me and Meghan end up in a courtroom together, it will be quite stunning for everybody."//

He sounds like a man on a mission - and it's leaving a nasty taste even before it's off the ground. Perhaps attention seeking is a family trait.

LB, when you send someone a letter, the physical letter becomes the property of the recipient, but the copyright of the content remains with the writer. This is what this case hangs on.

Good to see you're now feeling well enough to post here :)

LB I think ownership of a personal letter remains with the author.

I agree lady
Ah, thank you Brainiac, that explains it.
Starting to feel human again at long last, thanks again. xx
Yes, if I sent someone a letter in which I'd written my latest poem, the physical letter would belong to the recipient, but the copyright of the poem would remain with me. Thus Meghan is claiming that the copyright of what she wrote to her father is hers, although the letter itself is his.
I'm surprised she isn't suing her father for publishing photos of her when she was a baby and when she was appearing in school productions and early acting roles where she played a prostitute or stripper. Surely he should have got permission from her to do that? There were photos and videos of her in the programme he made and now there are more photos of her in the papers. He said she would be pretty shocked to see them today, but that didn't stop him from having them published.

Barsel, I think the same applies to photographs as letters. The letter she's complaining about belongs to her, but the pictures belong to her father and therefore he is entitled to publish them.
I daresay you are right Naomi but he must be causing her huge embarrassment and will surely push her even further away. I really can't see what he is hoping to achieve by doing this.
What an embarrassment that family is. The Queen must be cringing.
Makes her lot look like angels cg;-)
His new book on parenting is out this week.
Is he thick as well as being an undignified embarrassment? He is hardly going to endear his daughter to him by appearing against her in Court, is he? Or is this his ruse? Make the threat in the hope that she runs back into his grubby outstretched hands?

I dont see this ending well.
Will she actually have to be in court?
She'll have to give evidence, Rocky. But she may do it by video link.
He seems like a sad and pathetic man.
