About 10,000BC
Errr.... catso, if you are talking about the Carboniferous coal measures, then it's a little bit longer than that - in fact it was something over 290 million years ago.

The British Isles were under sheets of ice 10,000 years ago - not your usual conditions for coal forming forests and swamps. 10,000 years ago is also considered 'recent' in geological terms.
Half past three last Tuesday.
Are you disputing they were laid down by 10,000BC, brachiopod? I think they were.
