How can a small packet with the correct UK address and Post Code go missing in the Post? It would appear that with standard post you just take a chance on whether your post item will get to its destination and if it goes missing you get zero help from the Post Office.

Do you have a shared front door?
Thats why you should pay an extra quid and have a tracking number and get a signature on delivery .. at least you can prove they didn't deliver it.
If you put 'from' address on it might return - happened to daft dter ;)

small packet might cost more than standard postage - did you check cost
Rochdale Council are adamant they sent out letters to everyone in this street about a planning application. Nobody has received them. Not one. Apparently they don't use Royal Mail, they use a private company. The council don't seem overly concerned about the failure of the mail company. I intend to complain. Not like me, is it?
If you think about the millions of items handled by Royal Mail per day, the odd one going missing isn't really that surprising.
they have their own kinda laws
the stamp is not the payment of a contract

you give the item to the post office
and they MAY give it to the address
and pocket the fee as sort of unlinked activities

odd but it has always been so
Easily...a post-person delivers it to the wrong address (genuine human error) and the recipient just doesn't bother to do the right thing.
(I'm convinced that this has happened to me, when our usual excellent postman has been on leave).
I wouldn't bet on it, alavahalf. I once got a signed-for delivery actually brought to me by a guy who'd found it in the gutter at the other end of the street. I've no idea who was supposed to have signed. But they did reimburse me for the lost article, which I'd really got.
I get post for other people all the time...

I also was waiting on a package and tracking it it said it had been delivered and signed for. It hadn't. They just put a 'X' in the box. It arrived 2 days later.
Is'nt that whats known as fraud ... " I once got a signed-for delivery actually brought to me by a guy who'd found it in the gutter at the other end of the street "
So you did actualy receive it then . "But they did reimburse me for the lost article, which I'd really got."
Shame on you ! ... ;-)
As a rule I send out about 10 parcels per fortnight, always send them recorded. Will admit that not everything is fool proof as I have been scammed, even on Special Delivery. Touch wood .. but out of the last 500 parcels I have sent, only one has gone missing.
