Where is the skill in the game of Rugby

I can see (just about ), an element of skill in say football , in having to move a ball with your feet

But - running with a ball in your hand - where does the skill come in ?

the handling of the ball, the ruck, maul, and the fact it's one of the toughest games on the planet. I would suggest you watch it more thoroughly preferably with someone who is knowledgeable about the game.
Its a great sport, come on England.
