What a surprising delight to see the Academy, just for once, see beyond the end of their own noses and award the Best Picture/Best Director Oscars to a foreign language movie.
Congratulations to the makers of Parasite. I look forward to seeing it when it's available in the UK.
Hi Mozz71, we went to see Parasite at the weekend (it is in the UK, and at mainstream cinemas). Enjoyed it, but didn't think it was Oscar worthy. 1917 was a much better film. But all congratulations to everyone involved with the making of Parasite, can't take it away from them at all! But glad that Roger Deakins got best cinematography for 1917, it was stunning! And all filmed in the UK! The usual array of frock-horrors on the red carpet ....
I caught a bit of Phoenix's speech, specifically the part about cows.
What a pillock,.
What is it with some actors who think that remembering words that somebody else has written, and then saying those words out loud in a manner required by a director, makes them think they have anything worthwhile to say on any given subject and that other people should hear what the have to say.
Pick up your award, say thank you, and then get the eff off the stage.
He's got exactly the same right as anyone else Deskdiary, but feck, he droned on. I quite liked his apology for his past behavior, but when he started on the cows, I mentally switched off.
"Phoenix said: "I think we’ve become very disconnected from the natural world. Many of us are guilty of an egocentric world view, and we believe that we’re the centre of the universe." - talking about yourself there mate!
