Android Applications Updating Without Permission
8 Answers
Had a feeling that this was going on for some time, because an app I have, that'll move some apps onto the memory card to save mobile/tablet memory, has been showing notifications that apps I've not updated can be moved if I wish.
Wel I'm now convinced since I note two card game apps I downloaded a while ago, and not even got around to trying, are claimed to have been updated overnight while I slept !
In the Play Store settings it is set to "don't auto-update apps", so this should never happen.
Does anyone know anything about this clandestine changing of software on mobiles/tablets ? And does anyone know how it can be stopped ?

(Another app updated itself at 5am, and I checked both 'all apps' and the individual app settings, both deny auto-update.) But Play Store doesn't care. Says it's stuff is so buggy that they receive massive amounts of feedback so won't respond. Should have guessed Google would take that attitude. Very frustrating experience too. Says it's found a related article. Not that I believe it, but it neither showed not linked to it. Then says I must log in for more help, despite the fact that I was already logged in, in order to get to the feedback page. Low quality control there, obviously.
Still occurring. Google not responding; and when I brought the matter the the attention of an app creator I simply got multiple statements of abuse followed by excuses for having done so. It's most likely a Google error as it would be involved in downl9afpding. Or maybe a Samsung one, but if the setting is set for no clandestine downloads then it should be adhered to. The daft thing is that many apps don't automatically downloaded, but some do, which complicates things.
Just to record that not only does it still occur, but last night I saw something on the bar at the top of the tablet screen; dragged it down to look, and there saw the downloading then checking of apps I'd not given permission to update. And none of them were listed in the 'my applications', recently updated list ! Worse, in the list, at the top, were two more apps that had not been given permission to update. It seems Google or Samsung have set things such that app updaters can opt to ignore setting for no auto update. Google NEVER responded to my query. I didn't try Samsung. Contact an app creator and some can be just plain nasty and insulting. I know, I had one accuse and insult me on their page in Play Store.
Someone is up to no good, allowing updates without permission.
