I rarely watch Panorama, but made an exception for this evening's programme about Amazon. What a load of scaremongering! I would like to put it in a time capsule for people watch it in 10 years time and let them laugh at how fearful we were of the future!

I like shopping on Amazon. I used to use eBay all the time but I'm not so keen on it these days.

I use both, but mostly Amazon for new stuff and eBay for second hand. I also have Alexa in the house but its not yet connected to my Amazon account, and we're not sophisticated enough to have it manage our household. We're incredibly unsmart, but thats more to do with being inept rather than fearful of big brother!

I didnt see the programme. In what way was it scaremongering? Do tell!
They say the CIA can read what you type in the answer box even if you don't click "Answer Now"!
Good luck to the CIA if they can make sense of some of the posts on AB

The scaremongering was about how they collect and use data. The programme was delivered in such a way that would scare some people. Very sensationalised. In my mind Amazon are doing no more than any other companies are doing. So for example, they can predict sales trends, choices we make through our searches and purchases, and as Amazon move into TV and digital services, they judge what we like to watch and listen too in order to sell us more of the same.

The idea that they are listening in is amusing. As if anyone has time or interest in that low level trivia!

Remember when the generation before last used to think that the people on the TV were watching them?!
"As if anyone has time or interest in that low level trivia!"

Spot on. The regular public are moot apart from our spending habits.

Now if Harry and Meghan or Michael Jackson had an Echo that i'd maybe be more interested in.

Yes I know MJ is dead.

The recordings are made to increase and improve Alexa's vocabulary. Its made quite clear in the user guides how you can delete them.

I felt the programme was extremely anto Amazon, like tem or loathe them thy ate no different to Tesco or Apple.
