Tonight we’re having some plant based burgers, not veggie burgers as such, but some which apparently look and taste like meaty ones. We didn’t buy them for that reason, just decided to try them to see what they’re like.
Having them in an oven bottom muffin with a salad of diced cucumber, pointy peppers, black grapes and cherry tomatoes, and corn on the cob.

Do let us know what they are like. Personally, I prefer foods that are not manufactured to that degree.

So do we generally, pasta, but thought them worth a go. I really like veggie burgers where you can actually identify which veg are in them, and they’re usually very tasty.

Indeed Tilly, one half of muffin spread with mayo, the other half with ketchup.
Curious as to what brand they are.
I read a comparison the other day between real, and...um...fake burgers.

These are Don Lee Farm organic ones.
I too have been reading up about them.
The consensus seems to be if you’re eating these to follow a more healthy low fat low salt diet then forget it, they’re pretty much the same as a beef burger in that respect.
But if you’re just trying to eat less meat products then they’re pretty good.
I hope they’re edible because I have ten of them... :/
Lol! The ones I read about were the No Bull burgers...with half the protein of Aberdeen Angus burgers.

Conclusion...
I prefer them to meat ones, but then Ive never been much of a fan of burgers, apart from a Big Mac.
Other half didn’t dislike them and would have them again but prefers a meat burger.
They’re quite thin, have to be fried rather than grilled or oven cooked, texture is a bit meaty and all holds together quite firmly, nothing like a veggie burger which tends to collapse.
I have just googled Don Lee Farm, They are an American firm. I thought you had bought your burgers locally, from a farm shop.
How come they have as much fat and salt as a beef burger, Vagus?
Which brand of burgers did you buy?

I like the Coop 'Incredible vegan burgers'. They're quite tasty.

Bought them from Costco, which sells a number of American products. No idea why they contain what they do, you’d have to ask the manufacturer, I imagine it’s down to trying to make them taste just like meaty burgers.
Well, are you going to eat the rest of them?

Their proper name is compass capsicums.
I read this article several months ago, and it's definitely food for thought. It analyses both the new, "looks like meat" veggie burgers, and cultured meat burgers. The ingredients and manufacturing processes are appalling. To me anyway.

I wouldn't eat any of them. If I wanted veggie burgers, I'd only eat the ones that are made up of mostly veg chunks and pieces.
Otherwise I'd stick to good quality meat.

Will probably eat the rest of them over the coming months as they’re in the freezer and I don’t like wasting food.
Would I buy them again? Probably not, not being a burger fan really, but they were worth trying.
