Whenever someone posts about the present virus on here there's a percentage that seem to want to label them as being either hysterical or going into panic mode for no reason. Some people do worry a lot more than others. With this particular virus I for one can understand their worry. I cannot ever remember in my 69 years of ever seeing such a virus spread around the world at such a pace.
In my view the posters that like to come across as not being bothered, or the virus is being blown all out of proportion are more than likely more concerned than the ones that openly admit to being worried.
If its correct that government have decided to withhold where there's new outbreaks, or bigger clusters, this maybe to combat any area panic, this I would think would be a very bad Idea and would contribute to even more going down with the virus, if you know there's a bigger out break in your area you can then take even more caution of what you do, and were you decide to go, and even increase more washing of hands.
A good example of the need to know is, My mom is 99 years old, she's not been out her home for the last 4 years, she as no wish to do so as she's happy indoors,. Her health is good (for her age) her chances of catching the virus therefore is very reduced as she don't go out.
If I don't know that my area is rampant with the virus/ or more so in my area I can't make a risk assessment of weather I should go to see her, she is still self caring and does very well on her own, I don't want to be the one to kill her off after all these years, at the moment I see her once every two weeks, in between by phone, and there must be many situations like mine, she lives 25 mile from me.
Conclude don't be so hard on people who post about this virus, they may live on their own and be very worried, they may only have this site to talk too with no family.

Complaceny leads to "too little too late" precautions. The virus has been around for months but only last Monday did our lazy smug Government start to address it. And with what - minor remedies like washing your hands more often, stay away from crowds (and the latest this evening, the two teams playing in the F A Cup will not shake hands before the match - wonderful). Major disasters need major action, not diversionary pin-pricks.
China has isolated/quarantined whole cities, but here the 4Ds and the Greeds would never accept that. Most emergencies arise because early warnings are not accepted (e.g. Climate Change) and this is just another example.

We're at the beginning of this epidemic, not the end. It's wrong to be panicky, but at the same time it's simply premature to write it off as a fuss over nothing when the numbers of infected and dead are growing daily.
A legitimate concern is that this could be comparable to (if not quite in the same league as) the Spanish Flu of 1918 (50 million dead globally), rather than to, say, the MERS outbreak of 2012 (800 dead).

Re people being bashed verbally for ( stock piling ). Many people care for elderly/sick family and friends. So when you tut tut because they are buying 4 packets of toilet rolls/ hand sanitiser/ paracetamol/ numerous loafs of bread. Don’t always assume all the purchases are for them. It’s called continually doing good deeds for people.
Indeed it has, but that doesn't mean that a global pandemic isn't a risk. There's no treatment, currently, to Covid-19, beyond general care that alleviates the symptoms. If the virus spreads to communities where even basic care isn't available then it would lead to a great many more deaths than currently.
I do see where you are coming from regards your Mum, teacake. I’d probably be the same if my Dad was still around, but does she have any help in the house? Carers, cleaners, visits from medical professionals?
You would have to weigh up the pros and cons of letting them in her house.
Personally, I thinks it’s all scaremongering and has given the news channels something to fill their time with. Mind you, it’s a welcome relief the from the climate change and mental health stories they have been ramming down our throats lately, I suppose.
