how long on average do budgies live for?

I now have my grandas, he died two years ago and the budgie was about 9 then! surely they cant live all that long. It doesn't fly anymore and its practically bald. He climbs up his cage all the time and sometimes just falls to the bottom! You'd think the drop would kill him but no he just tottles back up his ladder to do it again.

That is really old for a Budgie, i used to breed them, 8 years old is about average, but one here in Bristol lived to the ripe old age of 14, what is more it could recite the address he lived at...amazing, it all depends on how well they are looked after too, sounds like this little birdie has been well loved, and had a good life, no wonder though he is a bit bald at his age.

Keep up the good work, this little birdie sounds like a real character.

Yeah he is quite unique and people love to watch him. If you take him out the cage because he doesn't fly anymore he just walks around the room likes going up to the dog who just looks as if to say not again. I will be gutted when he finally pegs it even though I've been expecting it since I got him.

Well when he does finally go, if you feel a bit down, just get in touch with me here, Animals, who could hurt them? they are better than a lot of rotten humans i know, or should i say...morons.

I bought one of my Budgies that i had bred indoors, i called him Jimmy after the snooker player Jimmy White, he talked so much, and followed me everywhere, when i lost him, it broke my heart, then i lost my Dog, and a House Rabbit, my Mum says i am the best person in the world to keep Animals, i am nick-named the Animal whisperer, but i am the worst when it comes to losing them.

I won't move to a house if i can't have pets, they are a huge priority in my life, i'd rather live outside with them.
