It was just announced on the radio that the govt is considering moving up to the next stage, ie, asking all vulnerable and elderly people to self-isolate. Well that's good innit? Everyone here at Ab Towers, th'old folks home of tinternet, will be asked to stay permanently indoors, whilst everyone else gets on with their panic shopping. If we don't peg out from CV, it'll be malnutrition. Never mind. There is always those cutie, cutie pussycats and doggies (aaww! Hugs and kisses) to keep everyone company. We're all DOOMED! DOOMED I tell you!

I live in a sheltered housing block no coordinated plans just yet. Some of us are under 70 I might try to organise something maybe a basic supplies system things like bread milk eggs etc. I will ask around as lots of the residents don't have much support.

My BIL owns a taxi service and they do shopping for their old customers, I’m sure they will continue to do so

I got this email from Sainsbury’s today

You will have seen that, due to the ongoing uncertainty around the full impact of Coronavirus, supermarkets have been much busier than usual and customers are choosing to stock up.
I wanted to personally reassure you that we have more food and other essential items coming to us from manufacturers and into our warehouses and distribution centres. If we all shop just for the food that we and our families need, there will be enough for everyone.
I also wanted to let you know that at Sainsbury's, we are working really hard to ensure this remains the case. Over the past two weeks we have:

Ordered more stock of essential items from our suppliers

Put more capacity into our warehouses and
-
Set limits on a small number of items, including some cleaning products, soap and pain relief. This is a precautionary measure - if everyone shops normally, there will be enough for everyone.
There are gaps on shelves because of increased demand, but we have new stock arriving regularly and we're doing our best to keep shelves stocked. Our store colleagues are working tirelessly and doing the best job they can.
Which brings me onto a request. Please think before you buy and only buy what you and your family need. If we all do this then we can make sure we have enough for everyone. And please help elderly and vulnerable friends, family and neighbours with their shopping if you can.
I wanted to take this opportunity to thank you for your continued support and to thank our colleagues who are all working incredibly hard to ensure we can continue to serve our customers well.

I don't understand how us over seventies can all self isolate when, according to the posts on AB, you can't get a slot for internet shopping. Presumably it would be like Spain and we could only go out for shopping and medication.

Margaret, soon after I have received my internet shopping, I go on line and book my next slot, usually about 10 days ahead. I have no idea what I will want but as I use Waitrose and their minimum order is £60 I might just order 6 x bottles of wine to keep the order open. Then I pop in and out during the 10 days removing (some) of the wine and gradually fill up with what I need. It works.

We didnt panic, but we did stock up this week on all essential supplies. We bought double of everything, food, washing and cleaning products, you name it we have it! We've put it all in an emergency box in case we feel too ill to go out. I call it sensible planning, we didnt panic about it!

If the Govt 'asks' us to self-isolate, does that mean we can claim on travel insurance for a forthcoming holiday?

My lovely son phoned me today . We do not live in each others pocket and he works long hours. However he phoned to say that we must phone him if we need any food or medications and he would deliver. He and his wife are lucky enough to be working from home until this all passes. A company decision. I feel relieved and blessed.

I am grateful my father fell ill last year and not this year.
