There’s a few springing up in and around Tyneside, mostly young people doing shopping and checking the needs of older ones, I’d imagine it must have been like this during the war years too

Naomi, We have lots of farm shops, but we are avoiding because of self isolation. Our self isolation isn't difficult because we only have three other dwellings near us, one of which is self isolating too!

Apc not sure which part of Norfolk you live in, but they have gluten free pasta in Sainsbury's Gt Y . Probably miles away, who knows.

We went racing at Fakenham on Friday, it was a beautiful day with the farming community and the like, all queuing up to wash their hands! It was good to be out before the lock down!

I suspect they are tougher than you think. Most likely been through a war or lived just after when there were shortages.

Its lovely that Communities are pulling together but it will take a different level of pulling together to support people with no income in a week or two's time.

The entire travel, hospitality, leisure, tourism, arts and entertainment industries will be closed by the end of the week. What happens then?

There are buses running round with no passengers, they wont be burning diesel for no reason much longer.

Lets see the community really pull together to support the unemployed. Its more than running errands.

Ken 4155- yes, I heard about these lowlifes too. I have no fear, however. A) she's a villager and I've known her for 5 years and b) she's a churchwarden and very well-off! (More likely to stick a bit extra into my bag and not charge me for it!)

Not in my small Market town, Morrisons, ~Aldi and Sainsburys all cleaned out of Fresh milk completely

These community-minded people are indeed a blessing - I had a much younger friend e-mail me a few days ago offering to do my shopping for me should I become one of Boris's aged prisoners.

The "panic" buyers seem to fall into 3 categories :-

1. Wise people anticipating isolation and doubling or tripling their "usual" quota.

2. Morons who are just panicking and acting irrationally.

3. Potential black-marketeers stocking up their goods.

It's 2 and 3 who are the problem which is why we should introduce Rationing without delay (It was what we did during - and after - the War Bobbi - sadly even then there was some black-marketing).

Canary, group 4. Those stocking up on behalf of other people. That''s what I've done.

I'm fit, able and have the agility to get into the stores, get all the bits I need and get out whilst people are still looking for the loo roll.

My nana and Grandad were very happy with my for dropping off not only antibacterial wipes, toilet roll and a loaf of bread but also for bringing them a alcohol gel hand sanitizer. Carex fun edition, was only 7 on the shelves. Not antibacterial but with a virus who cares... It's better than nothing at all.

They're self isolating. I gave them the detol wipes that I had in my own house for when they get milk and their paper delivered for them to use on the handles of their premises.

Gosh I love them I hope they pull thru these hard times.

It's great that there is community spirit *somewhere *. Unfortunately I've not seen any evidence or reports of it here. I'm sure a neighbour or friend might do it, but I'd feel funny asking. No one has offered as yet.
It's particularly difficult for those of us with no nearby family, and who rely on public transport.

I suppose it varies from location to location, I have been moved by the number of people in the last few days who have offered ongoing help - from rubbish out,letters posted to doing errands.

I am going to do a bright thank you poster for in the hallway.

Fyi to several - my daughter found a rich seam of what she needed, especially in dry goods, in Holland & Barratt, even allowing for the extra price she had to pay....

I just checked local news. Numerous articles on number of cases...4, many more articles detailing the closures of schools, pubs, restaurants, entertainment venues, etc, etc. Not one bit of information about community spirit, groups or individuals offering help...nothing. Rather depressing really.
Does one need to be on Facebook to get this sort of information?

We have local people offering to help those who need it.

We have a very good friend who now has to work from home, he has kindly offered to get shopping for us.

There are some genuinely good people out there.
