Online Food Shop
16 Answers
I'm new to online food shopping but have managed to get a slot for Monday and have placed an order of groceries.
I realise I can amend the order up until the day before, but what happens with stock availability. Lots of things were out of stock when I ordered, but maybe they will be back in by then? Or equally, what I have ordered could be unavailable by then so maybe I will have to chase around the shops again after all.
Its just taxing trying to find the best strategy to get milk and fresh food.

Yesterday, mid-morning, my local Waitrose was quiet and well-stocked...all the things that had "disappeared" were back...eggs, lots of fresh stuff, milk, paper products, bakery etc.
The downside was a 20/25 minute wait to get into the store. However, the weather was warm and sunny and it was worth waiting in a very spaced-out and orderly queue.

You've done well to get an order. I'm registered with Tesco but there are no available dates in the next 4 weeks (for home delivery and click and collect) and there is no provision for entering later dates.
We are also registered with Ocado but tried yesterday and were told we were number c9000 in a virtual queue so be prepared to wait 4 hours. 3.5 hours later we had fallen to number c11000 (so presumably some priority customers can jump the queue), so we gave up

Thanks all. I couldnt decide whether to opt for substitutes or not, but maybe I will. I didnt really want a pine air freshner in place of a pineapple, but I'll risk it.
I can get to the shops but I really dont want to if I dont have to. We have successfully isolated ourselves recently and having tried for a delivery slot I'll take it. I did call into local store for milk today but it felt really scary.
Do they charge the credit card at the time for whatever they end up delivering?

Thanks all. I'll check my order again the night before and see any of the out of stock items are available.
I have just been back into the order to add a few things, I'm getting the hang of it how!
FactorFiction - Try Asda. The site is often busy in the evenings but fine right now. I cant say whether they have slots in your area, it must vary.

I tried to do an online shop with Sainsbury's yesterday. I selected all the items I wanted and went to select a delivery slot. A window popped up saying that as I was neither elderly, vulnerable or disabled I did not qualify for home delivery. Instead I should select a store from which I could collect my items.
My wife found a site on Gov.uk where she was able to register me as 69 yo and a cancer patient.
Today Sainsbury's will allow the order to go to the payment stage but the bank won't let the payment go through.
