I needed to make a quick trip...a 5 minute walk away...to the local post office. Sammi has separation issues so leaving him is tricky. I asked a neighbour to sit by my door, keeping the door ajar so Sammi didn't feel too stressed.
I ran down to the shops...queues!! I'd not thought of that, and knew I would have a 30+ minute wait. Used atm and scooted back home. Dog ok...no barking.
Also no post office or speedy shopping for a few bits.
I then saw my neighbours coming in with loads of shopping...they said aldi had everything...I explained that with the dog, etc, I'd not be able to go there.
Standing in my kitchen a few minutes later, I felt sudden depression over not being able to get out...and not a single person has asked me if I need any help. I was just wanting to cry out of frustration and loneliness.
There was a knock at my door...it was the neighbour I'd just seen...offering to do any aldi shopping I'd need as she was still working and could pick things up for me.
A big sigh of relief from me...it solves some problems. It's really not easy being on your own at this time, and I'd ask all of you who are able to please think of the older folk in your community.
When all of this started first thing I did was reach out to my older family members. None of them live more than 25 min away so i'm able to help. Not all vulnerable or old have that though but I couldn't manage helping out others as well.
Luckily i'm well supplied on what people may need, so if worst comes to works I can just give my spares. That's why i think it's important to look after number one in these instances so you can then look after 2,3,4..
That's good TD. My nearest family is 250+ miles away. Then the rest are 3,000 or more away. So I'm relying on those who probably already have others to worry about.
It's difficult to look after number 1 sometimes.
I live alone with five dogs. Been trying to get online to order food but no slots available. Been on a diet anyway so managed to order Slimfast on Amazon a couple of days ago - arrived just now and cheaper than supermarkets so now got three weeks worth just need to find a main meal which I have plenty of in freezer so all good here apart from five dogs climbing the walls wanting to go out!
I'm glad you were able to get help, Pasta. To have a problem like that when you live alone and in these circumstances is awful and knocks any spirit we're trying to keep up.....take care... Gx
