Honda Melody fuel problem

I have a 1983/84 Honda Melody but with a fuel starvation problem? There is fuel in the tank & it seems like it passes through the tap and gets into the carb but no further unless I take the carb of and pour petrol down the hole then it starts but runs really fast with no throttle stops
please can you help as its driving me mad !!!!!

dismantle the carb and look for obvious wear/damage. Don't wan't to patronize you mate but there aint nothing serviceable, only replaceable stuff in there.
most of the time its just a build up of crud in the jets, take it to someone with access to a high pressure airline and get them to blow the jets through. If you take it dismantled to a dealer and ask them to do this it will take them all of 30 seconds and they shouldn't charge you unless they are cnuts

And for the love of god, don't be tempted to poke anything through those jets!, no happy ending there.

have you checked the petrol tank filler cap breather hole is not blocked?(try running car without fuel tank cap fitted)
