For the first time in a fair while the top ten stories on BBC News website are not about coronavirus.

Space has been found to reintroduce moaning about the wrong kind of conservation.

Greta may soon be back in the building.

I think it was Reagan who (in a Trumpish moment) claimed forests could be dangerous.

Someone stuck a notice on a tree in Washington saying "Stop me before I kill again!"
well if the case numbers really are down to a 10% increase it means the doubling time is now 7d
and we can think about something else

yeah I was aware that planting the wrong kind of tree was really bad

pines in Darzet arrrgh changes the ecology of the birds that nest in them
oh killer trees ....
In 1981, President Ronald Reagan claimed that trees produce more air pollution than automobiles, fueling a spate of jokes about “killer trees.

the damp condition on St Helena led (ha!) to reduction of the green arsenic coloured wallpaper to arsine AsH3 - no really
and that was what he was said to have inhaled

oj there was arsenic in Napoleons body BUT it cd have been put there during embalming ( antibacterial even then)
I live near a forest where there are some very nice Italian Cypress. Maybe I'll have a stroll (naughty girl not allowed) down and get a Il bacio della morte issued on Greta :-)
They are right about right tree right place. After the war vast plantations of fir trees were put into the New Forest because it was believed that we would need the wood. The indigenous forest was clear felled. The fir plantations are like dead areas. they support very little indigenous wildlife of any kind, just the invader grey squirrels who eat the cones, and the ground is dry as dust. Gradually the plantations are being returned to the way they were, but its a massive job.

Sounds like Ronnie had been reading Tolkien. Or had it read to him at least.
