Deaths In Care Home.

One of my sons who is a carer has just rang my wife, and was shaken to report several, (?), deaths in his care home due to CV 19.
He and now we are worried about inadequate PPE, and the risk to him.
My wife advised him to get home asap and self isolate, but of course he has rent etc to pay.
A shocking situation.

And those deaths are not included in our official coronavirus count.

Care England, the industry body, estimated that the death toll is likely to be close to 1,000, despite the only available official figure for care home fatalities being dramatically lower. The Office for National Statistics said this week that 20 people died in care homes across the whole of England and Wales in the week to 27 March. //

As you know, ONC do report the figures periodically as the govt/medical advisers know they aren't included in the headline hospital deaths figure . But are you saying they are seriously understating the true figure for care homes, Gromit?

Was that meant to be in there, Gromit? Are you referring to checkouts in supermarkets? If so they should refuse to handle cash- no need for it- or use gloves (and change regularly)

Care England are saying it. The Guardian are reporting it, and I am copy and pasting the news.

No supermarkets have issued a cashless only policy. No supermarkets near me have check-out workers in face masks.

ff, the story says "up to" 1000 people may have died in care homes, far more than have been reported. No clear figure, though some are given

Gromit, the little local Sainsbury near me (three checkouts in a row) have a glass/plastic barrier between staff and customers, and they have masks. I've not seen it in bigger supermarkets, where I suppose each counter would have to have its own glass booth. Checkout staff all have masks and gloves, but at any given time they will be within about 3ft of a customer.

I don’t really understand this. If residents in care homes are diagnosed with the virus, wouldn’t they be hospitalised to avoid infecting others?

Theland, was your son, as a carer, not aware that some of the residents were infected - and if not, why not - or is the virus only detected during post mortem examinations?

Well, that's what I'm thinking, TCL, which is why I wondered why Theland's son wasn't aware that some residents were infected. I mean, it's not as if there was just one victim there. Theland says 'several' have died.
