OK, so we moved the cherry tree and followed all the advice
It's roots were a bit wimpy apart from some sort of tap root which I had to chop at about two feet deep. That was nearly four weeks ago, since then all the blossom has come out and it has quite a few good leaves. Nothing appears to be wilting or fallen off, generally it looks OK. When can I breath a sigh of relief that I haven't killed it ? ;-)
