Anyone else attempted to do their shop online?? What does it say re delivery slots??
My usual Tesco is saying no slots available for 2 weeks!! Am walking to Lidl and the queue is literally around the block - takes 30 mins just to get to the door!!
I too have a lady who would be called a Street Warden - she emails me everyday to see if I need anything which I don't as I get myself.
Last night I left the last of a food pack I am going to make as a few ones (food banks) have shut temporarily and so I had to deliver to a soup kitchen on the other side of town. Luckily they were working in the carpark taking stuff out of a lorry per se.
I am thinking these kitchens and food banks will perhaps do well at this time because of many shops closing and therefore distributing their food to the kitchens. Sorry Smow - it doesn't answer your question tho.
I think all supermarkets could be 20-30 minute wait but the queue moves quickly.
I was lucky to get a slot with Tesco, although it isn't until May 1st. If you go on just before midnight you are held in a queue and then the slots are released. Not ideal but better than nothing. I'm on my own so of course I don't need as much as you Smow, but if you book a slot now at least you can look forward (Ha ha) to your delivery. Life is so exciting, isn't it!
I find the best time to get hold of a slot is in the early hours Smow. I couldnt sleep the other night and took a look around at about 1.45am and found slots available. By morning they were all gone to the early birds.
Sainsbury's hasn't been taking on new customers for several weeks now. I always shop with them, but never registered for online...and if I try to get on the site, I can't get past entering my email. I think I'd have to phone them as they don't have me as elderly. Iceland is only delivering to those who are elderly or vulnerable. I registered with Tesco...no slots at all. That's for 3 weeks.
I'm relying on neighbours, but limiting what I get.
I'm in the 'sheltered' category, so ('officially') I shouldn't be leaving my house at all. However I'm still doing my own shoping, although as infrequently as possible. I visited the Ipswich Morrison's at 7pm yesterday (an hour before they were due to close) and there were no queues outside and only about ten customers in the entire store. So maybe shopping later in the day might be worth a try for you?
Nice to know Tescos care for their elderly customers; I first shopped with their first self-service store in Middlesex just after the war. Just stayed up before midnight until 1.30 am trying to get a delivery slot but once again they are all full. Lung problems and old age mean I must continue 5 weeks complete self isolation. My darling friends and neighbours offer to shop for me, but it would be so nice to be able to do it myself ......... Wishful thinking!
QS. If you are in the ‘ shielded ‘ category, there is a telephone number on Tesco groceries web site. They will assist you in getting a priority home delivery.
