Hi I am thinking of getting a smart meter from my electric and gas company Utility Warehouse.if I change to another company in the near future, will the new company be able to use the old companies meter. ,or will they install a new one.? Thanks.

Why would you want a smart meter - just asking for trouble, and you do NOT have to have one, no matter what your energy company might say.

That said, one can't say for sure, but the likelihood is that they'd install their own. Don't think there's a decent standard yet. Which is probably for the best. Don't want a 'hack one, hack all', "all eggs in one basket", situation.

I changed from E-on to Octopus and the meter supplied by E-on does work with Octopus.

Best to check with your supplier. The one EDF suppliesd to me does not work now I am with Octopus.
